Viking (v): to go on a sea voyage.
Fable Bound is a 20ft iconic Viking longship and immersive experience created to honor the importance of our individual and collective storytelling. This project is being created for Burning Man 2024 and has been selected by The Burning Man Organization to be a part of the Honoraria Program.
Physical Description:
The ship will be displayed in the Black Rock City desert and is engineered to move as though sailing on ocean waves.
The ship is unmistakably Viking and features classic Norse design aspects such as runic carvings, traditional shields and a carved prow. Participants can climb the ship from bow to stern and explore the unique design elements. Gods from Norse Mythology and elements of Viking folklore are featured throughout the ship.
Project Concept:
Fable Bound follows the narrative of Aada Agnarson, a young Viking woman who is aboard the ship on her hero’s journey. Through the lens of history and Norse mythology, Fable Bound explores the power in the stories we all tell and create. The project encourages participants to answer the call to adventure and embark on their own hero’s journey.
